Our Vision
Our vision is for every child to feel happy and secure within themselves, recognise their potential, grow in confidence, and build a brighter future.
Role and Responsibilities
Our role is to support children, young people, and their families to re-engage with education. Every child referred to us has faced their own challenges with educational provision. Many feel unable to engage or have become completely disengaged—leaving both families and education providers unsure of how to overcome these barriers.
We provide bespoke, needs-led support packages that place the child or young person at the centre. By building trusting, consistent relationships, we help them take small steps toward re-establishing confidence, communication, and connection. For some, there may have been a breakdown in relationships with professionals or parents/carers; our role is to rebuild trust safely and steadily.
Jigsaw Family Support also alleviates some of the pressure experienced by parents and carers when their child cannot attend education. We invest time in building strong relationships with families and often act as a communication link between them and other involved professionals or agencies.
Around 90% of the children and young people we support have been excluded or are struggling to attend due to issues such as bullying, anxiety, masking, or difficulty expressing their needs. We advocate for reasonable adjustments and ensure their voice is heard throughout the process of re-engaging with education.
We work with families both short-term and long-term—supporting those at risk of disengagement, as well as those who have been out of education for an extended period. Although early intervention is ideal, we recognise that support is often commissioned once situations have escalated. Regardless of when we become involved, our approach is always tailored to the individual and their level of need.
For young people ready to take first steps back into learning, we provide tutoring and small-scale educational re-engagement, alongside vocational and hands-on learning accredited through ASDAN and Functional Skills English and Maths to support next steps to college, apprenticeships etc
What to Expect From Us
Our process begins with an initial contact with parents/carers to discuss the current situation, identify needs, and introduce the Family Support Worker who will be involved.
A home visit with parents/carers then follows. This is an opportunity to build rapport, explore family routines, understand what has and hasn’t worked, and learn about the child or young person’s educational journey so far. Although this stage may feel like an assessment, it is simply our way of investing in you as much as in the child or young person.
When parents/carers feel comfortable, the Family Support Worker is introduced to the child or young person, with parents present. We spend time explaining who we are, what we do, and what support can look like.
From there, we take everything at the child or young person’s pace. Early sessions focus on building trust at home or in the community, using their interests and strengths to create positive experiences. As confidence grows, sessions may begin to take place outside the home, supporting resilience, routine, and readiness for educational re-engagement. Consistency is key, and we shape our approach around each young person’s individual pace and needs.
Throughout the journey, we work towards outcomes agreed by commissioners, parents/carers, and the child or young person. We maintain ongoing communication with schools, agencies, and professionals, attending meetings and providing updates as required.
Although each pathway looks different—and outcomes may evolve over time—we are proud to maintain a 100% success rate in achieving positive educational re-engagement. Whether through returning to a previous placement, transitioning to a new setting, or building a bespoke plan for success, we work with commitment and compassion to help every child and young person rebuild their future.
